Frequently Asked Questions

When can I apply / When are grants awarded?

Syla Foundation hosts one grant cycle per year, with invitations to apply issued in January. All applications are due by March 15th, with funding decisions communicated by June 15th. While final applications are by invitation only, new organizations can submit a Letter of Inquiry through our "How to Apply" page.

How do I access the online grant portal?

To access the full application, invited organizations will receive an email link directly.

May organizations submit more than one request per grant cycle?

Typically, Syla Foundation does not consider more than one request per grant cycle.

What types of requests are accepted and how much money should be requested?

The Foundation is willing to consider requests for general operating/unrestricted funding, program support, and capital requests. While we can't fund every project in full, we ask that organizations ask for what they need as part of their overall funding. We strongly encourage applicants to consult with a representative of the Foundation on the type, size, and scope of a request prior to applying.

Who is eligible to apply for funding?

Syla Foundation funds 501(c)(3) non-profits that support thriving children and youth, behavioral health, and economic opportunity. While we have some legacy funding in Wilkes County, NC and Atlanta, GA, our primary funding is in Colorado, Utah, and Montana.

If invited, what is required for the full application?

Through our online grant application, non-profits will be required to share basic information about the organization, specific details on their grant request, a request narrative noting the purpose for requested dollars, their current annual operating budget and program-/capital- budget (if applicable for the request), year-end financial statements, proof of current IRS Tax Exempt Status, and a linked or attached Annual Report. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Are there requirements after receiving a grant?

Yes, grant recipients are asked to provide at least one communication during the grant term with updates on the funded work. Multi-year grant recipients must complete a multi-year grant agreement, and submit a progress funding report for each year the agreement is active. â€‹â€‹â€‹
